Start/finish straight  - also shows what the stadium is used for most of the time !

As you can see it doesn’t matter if it rains but it can be quite cold. This year it was around  -11c in the stadium about  - 8c outside – the coldest I’ve known it.

 

Other things to note - be careful of the steps in the seated area toward the exit – they are wood and with the wet and sub-zero temperatures the bottom one became covered with ice and I don’t think I was the only one to take a dive !!!

I understand it had been reported but hadn’t been cleared.

 

The only other tip – if you are in the seated area (A or B) and don’t like being tightly hemmed in in large crowds wait until most people have gone before attempting to get out. For some reason none of the exit gates to the rear of the stand are opened at the end of the meeting forcing everyone to exit through the bar area. This would be bad enough in itself but mix this with 5 or 600 people trying to get into the bar having walked round from the back straight and it’s not nice – to say the least !! This really should be sorted out before something goes wrong.

 

Directions to the stadium from the rail station:-

 

Cross main road towards the centre  (Stationsstraat)

 

Turn Left at “T” junction signed “Politico” & “ICO” (Oostersinget)

 

Road bends to right past church “Zuiderkerk”  just past large building with bell tower turn left on to “Dr Vassaulaan” which is a long straight road past a deer park on the left.

 

Stadium is approx 800m away on left hand side close to some football pitches. Should be easy to find there’s usually loads of coaches and people. Allow ½ to ¾ of an hour for the walk from the station. Trains run to/from Assen around every 20mins or so.
